The Canadian Government has announced cuts of $226 million from Veterans Affairs Canada. Federal documents show the biggest reductions will come in compensation and finance for ex-soldiers and the loss of up to 500 jobs. This will result in a lack of compensation and benefits to our veterans. Their reasoning behind these cuts is that there is a reduction in the number of "traditional" veterans. However, the number of "new" veterans is on the rise. Men and women who have committed themselves to serving their country who are in need of physical and mental support, will find the cutbacks have diminished their chance of getting the help they deserve. The Royal Canadian Legion opposes these cuts, saying vets should be exempt from the Government's budget review process. (The Canadian Press). I, the undersigned, stand by our veterans and call on the Government to reconsider the impending budget cuts to Veterans Affairs Canada.
