Registered dental assistants pay over $19,000 in tuition to become a dental assistants and hundreds of dollars per year for association fees and licensing fees. Keep up to date with continuing educations points and you think it’s ok to hire people off of the streets and let’s them do the duties that we had to get a diploma for and pay them the same amount that we even hardly get? That’s a huge joke and slap in the face.

I definitely oppose the idea to train individuals in office for DA positions.
We need to focus more on keeping quality assistants with better working environments and better pay!

I believe this request by the dentist to have chair side trained DAs is also to keep the cost of wages low. Pay us what we are worth and we will be with you a lifetime

I oppose in-office training of clinical personnel being done independently by a dentist or other designated staff member without connecting that training to an accredited dental assistant training program.

I strongly agree with having formal education for Dental Assistants in Canada. The Dental community already has too many uncertified/ uneducated people working with patients in offices and this is incredibly irresponsible and unsafe and for the public.

This should have been done a long time ago. It’s only fair to the people who spend the money to go to school to become an assistant. A lot of times we can’t get jobs because in smaller places they have assistants that don’t have the course. They are taking jobs away from people who do.

As a past president of CDAA I stand behind their efforts to keep improperly trained and unlicensed dental assistants out of dental offices. It is unfortunate that some dentists and organizations think that this is an okay route to take.

I oppose chair side training as the only schooling you need. You are working directly on another life, you need the tools and the knowledge of practice before you do the jobs in an actual clinic. This totally degrades Registered dental assistants.

It is very important to have a high standard of care, this includes education, examination and certification! Anything less, puts patients at risk.

It's not fair to train dental assistants in an office when the rest of us had to go to a recognized school. We also pay for a license, fees, education which is very costly. As is dental assistants are under paid and the rate of pay should be controlled by government. We should also be unionized.

C’est vraiment décourageant de voir ce genre de clinique qui chercher des personnes n’ont qualifiés pour travailler comme assistants. Ils mettent en danger les patients. Tout ça pour ne pas payé une personne qualifiée.

I do feel that unlicensed DAs that have been working in the field with an required amount if hours should be able to get accreditation for their licence. There should be an opportunity for them to write the NDAEB. And a cease for Dentist to take on new unlicensed DAs.

We are usually not mentioned in context when speaking regarding dental issues it’s usually dentist, hygiene and techs. I know we’ve earned our place. Try and run a practice without us!! Why can’t you become a hygienist with on the job training??? Our better yet a dentist??? We need better people standing up for us then maybe more people will want to pick this as a profession!!! That’s a BIG NO from me!!!!

I worked hard for my license and continue to work hard at keeping up my skills. It is fair to think that if you are working in a Dental Office that you have some sort of post secondary education from an accredited school with hands on abilities.
