The Eagle Bar is a historic destination that allowed the Gay community establish it's nexus with the Leatherman at the onset of the Gay Liberation fight. It holds a significant place in the recognition by the LGBTQ community and the City at large.

I’ve been going to the SF Eagle for more than 20 yrs, it’s a central gathering place for my local and international community and is one of the last Eagle Bars in the country.

Love this historic bar. So much fun and makes you feel welcome. The staff is excellent. The Eagle has done so much good for San Francisco and to many of its communities.

As someone who moved here nearly 17 years ago, the Eagle has provided me a venue that is everything I hold dear to San Francisco. It's a place that welcomes LGBTQ+ from all walks and allows them to fit in. It's what I would deem as family. While the LGBTQ spaces are diminishing (45 gay bars 17 years ago, down to barely 20 within the city), it's important to keep these spaces otherwise they are lost forever. South of Market has seen it's share is dwindling just like we watched the Polk Street bars fall to 1 remaining. The Eagle should be designated a landmark for SOMA since it houses the Leather Cultural District outside it's doors, has hosted many fundraising events (including the 35+ years of Bare Chest Calendar), and flies the Leather Flag that was once flown over Castro during 40 years of Folsom. The Eagle made it possible to preserve these things, and it would be a shame to watch the savior go down after all the work preserving our SOMA history. We as an LGBTQ community still have a need for the space, both aging queer men and women, as well as new, young, people looking for a space to belong. The Eagle deserves this of anyone.

As the former president p of the bears of San Francisco, and a key fundraiser for organizations within our community, I cannot emphasize strongly enough the essential role that the SF Eagle has played in our community and in our lives. Internationally known, and locally loved, it stands as a testament to the resiliency and generosity of the LGBT population.

The SF Eagle is a bedrock to our LGBTQ community. With its long history of community activism, and providing a safe space for marginalized people, we can't afford a city without such an institution. My friends and I had fund-raise for local community for years. There is no place like the SF Eagle. I'm firmly supporting the "Historically Designated" culture site status for the SF Eagle
