Dispatchers do not always get the recognition that they deserve. They are technically the first to respond to emergencies through communication. They receive emergency and non-emergency calls and are responsible for various tasks. Dispatchers answer those life or death calls and have the capability to remain calm during stressful times. They are susceptible to traumatic experiences just like other first responders. They work 24/7, through holidays, natural disasters and pandemics. Dispatchers go through constant training to maintain certifications, updated training and to maintain access to various databases. Dispatchers deserved to be called first responders just as much as the others within that classification. This petition is to recognize dispatchers as first responders and entitle them to the same treatment as law enforcement, firefighters and other emergency medical personnel.

The feedback from dispatchers across the country continues to show just how deep this frustration runs. I am spending my nights reading through your experiences while preparing the formal requests we need to send out. We are exhausted but we are not walking away from this.

We are the first responders for most calls that police fire and medical respond to. That’s the only way the get the call as it comes into the communication center. There are no secretaries that can do our job.
There is no response unless Dispatch responds. The true first responders to every call.
Dispatchers are absolutely first responders and life savers
Dispatchers deserve to be labeled as a first responder. They deserved to be recognized as a first responder and deserve the same treatment as one.

We need our dispatchers! Hard to find people who will do the job and it’s hard to keep them.
