Dispatchers do not always get the recognition that they deserve. They are technically the first to respond to emergencies through communication. They receive emergency and non-emergency calls and are responsible for various tasks. Dispatchers answer those life or death calls and have the capability to remain calm during stressful times. They are susceptible to traumatic experiences just like other first responders. They work 24/7, through holidays, natural disasters and pandemics. Dispatchers go through constant training to maintain certifications, updated training and to maintain access to various databases. Dispatchers deserved to be called first responders just as much as the others within that classification. This petition is to recognize dispatchers as first responders and entitle them to the same treatment as law enforcement, firefighters and other emergency medical personnel.
