President Wee was a peoples' President. But he was nonetheless appointed by Parliament.
President Ong was a PAP backed candidate and the first elected President, but nonetheless performed his duties according to his new office without fear or favour.

President Ong Teng Cheong is indeed our first elected President of Singapore and is the President that I truly respect and can relate as a Singaporean. I'm proud that President Ong was our President and the contributions he made to Singapore. Wherever he is now, may he rest in peace.

PAP has the power to rewrite history because a PAP-controlled Parliament can redefine anything it wants. Wasn't LKY called Singapore's founding father although he founded nothing?

Seems like the government can suka-suka change history by bending the laws for their own purpose. Why do through all this charade of electing the next president? Might as well have the AG find some legal basis to install the PAP's next choice for President.

Mr Ong Teng Cheong was definitely the 1st elected president and it taught as such during my schooling days.
