Wee Kim Wee is the people president enjoying unequalled support. Still he was not elected to the position. But again this does not negate his office of the president. Ong Teng Cheong is the first EP (Elected President) period.

Yes, laws and constitutions must be upheld, and they should be respected and observed by the ministers.

This is completely absurd argument to denounce Mr Ong Teng Cheong as the first elected president of Singapore by Mr Chan Chun Sing in parliament. It's clearly disappointing that none of the elites PAP MPs have the moral values to rebuke this remarks. How could trust these younger leaders to lead Singapore towards the next SG100...

There is none like Ong Teng Cheong, and never will be, and not just because he was the first. He exemplified what a true custodian of our reserves should do, exercising and asking questions about the powers granted him by the people as part of our Elected Presidency, and doing so in a fair and dignified way. He was indeed the People's President. God bless him always.

What good does it do to a nation by conferring the incumbent free rein to rewrite history according to his whims and fancies? The ease with which the ruling party changed the Presidential Elections Act is a stark reminder of the danger of absolute power; a severe lack of transparency of the decision-making process; as well as a lack of checks and balances mechanism to prevent the ruling party from acting in a totalitarian manner. Shouldn’t the authorities be more forthcoming in presenting their evidence and testimonials (e.g. Attorney-General’s formal advice) before they deny Mr Ong Teng Cheong of his crown as the “First Elected President” in Singapore. I am signing this petition because I am concerned about the credibility of the changes made despite the abundance of the evidence to the contrary. There are many outstanding questions that need to be addressed, such as: • Did the holders of public office act solely in terms of the public interest when they chose to ignore hard core evidence? • Were there any hidden agendas for rewriting history? • What were the long term implications for the distortion of historical facts? The distortion had not only robbed Mr Ong Teng Cheong of his rightful title as the “First Elected President” in Singapore, but it misguided the people, undermined the credibility of our government and destroyed the four pillars of democracy - justice, equality, freedom and representation. As a mother and a citizen of this nation, I have the obligation to object the blatant revisionist attempt. Hence, I am lending my voice to the petition “To Recognize ONG TENG CHEONG as Singapore First Elected President”.

I attended his funeral, learnt about what he tried to do and how he was stopped from doing what was deemed right. And I support his decision.

Whatever they did (eg. by not granting a state funeral for the honourable President Ong) or said (eg. now claiming that he was not the first EP), nothing will change our stand that the late President Ong Teng Cheong is a man of honour and integrity. A top-class Singaporean who has served this country well in various capacities. If only we have more OTCs. If only....
