Recess was an integral part of growing up for me as a child. The ability to play and be a kid was just as important as learning academia.

Children need time to be children. They will actually learn better if you give them back recess. My opinion.

Kids need a break. Having children sit at a desk through 6 hours of school with no break is quite ridiculous. With all the school work and the stress that weighs on children's brains is enough and while not even knowing what they're going through at home. You never know. Recess should be atleast 30 minutes to 1 hour to forget about everything and relieve stress by playing. People say "Children don't stress" well yes they do, it may not be things very big things like us adults stress about but even by saying the word "Homework" to a child is stress in there minds. School hours are 7am - 3pm . If taking reces away from children is nessacary than I believe taking away homework is nessacary if taking recess away is. By the time they get home depending on distance and other situations like "maybe there parents have errands to run or maybe they have to go to a baby sitter after leaving school" you never know but putting to much stress on a child's brain isn't good. Let's be realistic and actually think about this before doing it.
I hope the Osceola school board re thinks this and actually gives these kids a break.

I work in a school and see the relevance for recess. It let's out all of that pent up energy. When they get back in the classroom they calm down and focus better. Recess is good for our kids.

Even 15 minutes daily would be beneficial . This includes days of PE because they sit and listen to instruction for most of the class and do not have time to socialize .

As a retired teacher of 40 years, I can tell you that recess and learning through play will do much more for children than the hours of test preparation they are currently being subjected to in classrooms. It is the right thing to do.. RECESS. How many of you can work for 4 hours straight without a break? Come on .. use your common sense instead of putting the $$ in to corporate greed put it into the children.
