Reception of Holy Communion

Simeon prayed all his life to live to see the Saviour of the world and was given the priviledge of even holding Him in his arms. We are even more priviledged. We receive Him into our hearts.

Yes more reverence when receiving Holy Communion is a must and also before the beginning and after finishing Mass. There is too much talking going on and not enough silence or respect for those who want to pray or listen to Jesus. At times the church became more as entertaining place than a place of worship and reverence. No wonder the attendance is declining all the time.

I believe God would prefer we receive communion on the tongue, for fear of particles falling on the floor.

Decline in Mass attendance and lack of reverence are the fruits of the heroic, glorious and ever invincible Vatican II. Derelict clergy and cowardly and incompetent bishops are other factors

I find it very difficult to take communion whilst kneeling in our local diocese. However when I go to the Ordinariate Mass we take communion on the tongue whilst kneeling. Thank God for the Ordinariate parish.

It is a concern when as a matter of apparent routine virtually all Mass attendees except the unconfirmed children go to communion. Can this be that their attendance is the result of guidance by an informed conscience especially in parishes where use of the sacrament of confession is at least numerically disproportionately under utilised

We should RESPECT the Eucharist

Our faith in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is shown in the manner we receive Him. Let us receive Him with more reverence, more love, recollection, awe and thanksgiving! When we receive Him this way and encourage others to do the same, we will be edifying the faith of our brethren as well.

I am glad that someone has at last taken the initiative to do this. In the parish that I go to, we have the neo catechumenal community who totally disregard that bread once consecrated becomes the body of Christ. Complained about this to the Archbishop and the Vicar General and told them that ever since this started taking place within our parish, we have lost over 800 people. With respect, we ask the Catholic Bishops of Australia to: Encourage greater education in the necessary preparation for the reception of Holy Communion. Consider that a new approach to the reception of Holy Communion could show a greater love and respect towards Jesus. Ask all parishes to provide members of their communities an option to receive Communion on the tongue whilst kneeling down by providing kneelers to left and right or a Communion rail. Since it is a unique strength of our Church, consider methods to better inform Catholics about the greatness and beauty of the Eucharist. Consider strategies to foster greater reverence by moving away from the practice of Communion in the hand after engaging in a process of education and support. Consider that an efficient way to achieve this is to install Communion rails to be used for the reception of Communion. Encourage the use of altar servers with a paten to further minimise any chance of particles falling. Have an open mind to this proposal. We believe young people will be receptive to this change because there will be greater alignment between what we believe and the way we worship. Consider this proposal because we believe this change will bring many blessings for the Church in Australia.

More reverence in receiving Our Blessed Lord is necessary. Agree with the need to return to receiving Holy Communion on the tongue as the only option; the use of kneelers and the use of the paten by the altar server.

Catholics need to know the importance of receiving Communion on the tongue while kneeling. Chilren need to be taught the traditional way.

Priests and Eucharistic ministers should be trained to distribute Hosts on the tongue. Priests to be discouraged using large hosts and carelessly pouring Hosts from one ciborium to another.

The 'new approach' listed in point 2 should be worded 'traditional and time honoured approach' - the approach by which countless Saints received the Eucharist - kneeling and on the tongue (in a state of grace of course).

Need SILENCE in church, too much social chit chat! Do away with the "peace be with you" Handshake .. Most disruptive as we enter into the preparation of receiving the Blessed Eucharist.

Holy Communion on the tongue should be mandatory. But we need strong decisive leadership from (Arch)Bishops and Parish Priests. The Clergy have been so beaten and battered by the thuggery and gangsterism of political correctness that they are afraid to give spiritual and liturgical direction on such a sacred and reverential part of the Holy Mass. It's just easier to cause no offense and not say anything. Its so profoundly sad and heartbreaking to see the submarine Catholics (who surface during Easter and Christmas) and others laughing, talking, giggling and going up to receive the Holy Eucharist as if standing in line at the footy to get a hot dog. If they don't even understand they are receiving the Body of Christ what hope is there.
