As I have recently been made aware of this petition, I believe that I should make a comment to the courage and initiative taken by some of the kindest people in the world. I ask that their names, institutions, and other personal information remain private in respect for them.
The outpouring of love and support is amazing. I am humbled by the amount of love and generosity shown by my students, staff, faculty, and others here in the UAE and beyond.
It may be true that there have been some potentially harsh statements made by people who were not present at the event. Let us not hold these harsh comments against those who are unaware of the impact of their actions. Can any of us say that we have never misinterpreted the words or actions of someone else? Who among us can say that they operate in perfect knowledge and grace? Our journey here on Earth is fraught with mistakes and misunderstandings; it is through our love for God, and for each other, that we are able to exist in peace and harmony together.
Yes, I am saddened by the misunderstanding. My family and I were invited to a fashion competition, and we gladly and respectfully attended. I spontaneously twirled my wife as an act of showmanship for the competition. I was careful to avoid any public display of affection during the entire event, especially on stage. There is no way that the organizers or staff could have predicted this action, or every other action, of such a large and complex event. If anyone saw this as an act of disrespect, then they are terribly mistaken. I have enormous respect and love for the Emirati people and the UAE. You are my family and friends, and all of you will always have a special place in our hearts.
As the truth of the "twirl seen around the world" has unfolded, I believe that this National Day has come to also represent the triumph of the UAE regarding different cultures and genders. This has created an opportunity to embrace loving discussions within an open foru

There's a good chance that I have the excellent securiti teacher ever . He was very happy in our celebration and he did not mean to do anything wrong it's just a reaction because he was very happy .
The one who took the video should be punished from the government cuz she didn't arrive the correct info to the people.

The decision was made too hastily and adequate background research not done. HCT lost a great teacher, from what the students say. I kindly urge that those responsible of the decision making, look into context and try to make sense out of it, regardless if the assumed 'perpetrator' here is an expat, as we all have our civilian rights. Inshallah if that were to be implemented, future incidents can also be avoided.

In my opinion the teacher was celebrating, he's a really good person and he respect our traditions and culture. What happened is a misunderstanding, it was an act out of happiness and joy .

May i correct you, the student council is the one running this petition we had as little knowledge of what was going on as you were. We are here to show students we are there for them and want to make a difference and this petition would prove to the people above us that we did our job right.

I'm sure that the professor and his wife had no intention of offending the UAE traditions in any way. Clearly, the uproar created by it is because it was taken out of context. I do think that the person who uploaded the video should be penalized in some way because that video should never have been posted.
