I just received word that the district has finally committed to finishing the stairs by our deadline. This result belongs entirely to the hundreds of you who signed and kept the pressure on because I never imagined this would actually happen so soon.

Final supporters
The community has waited patiently through not one but TWO work stoppages on the Murray Stairs project, dragging on now for nearly three years. We've had enough! This latest lawsuit and counter-suit threaten to delay the project indefinitely. While the lawyers battle it out in court, is it fair to ask the students and the community to wait further? We will not and cannot wait any longer.
We are asking the Board of Education to fund the rebuilding of the stairs for completion before September 1st. This needs to be a top priority for the district. The safety and education of our children is of paramount importance. The stairs closure has significantly compromised these two core objectives by: (i) adversely impacting traffic patterns causing dangerous traffic conditions, (ii) eliminating vital instructional space, (iii) decreasing the auditorium capacity and (iv) obstructing building and playground access and egress.
Please sign this petition to tell Dr. Shaps and the Board of Education that we NEED ACTION now.

Please complete the stairs! The traffic situation due to the stairs being closed is unsafe and school is not functioning well without using the main entrance. The PTA pixed the playground... now it is your turn!
In a town that is known for it's standards especially as it pertains to the school and the school environment, it is unacceptable that the Murray Avenue school steps have been left in utter disarray for the entire school year without and acceptable solution from the town and or district.
The steps at Murray Avenue School need to be finish immediately...The current condition is a FIRE hazard and I worry that the school might be closed and students sent to other elementary schools...The busing would be an added expense.
I'm a Central parent, but every time I drive past there appears to be nothing happening. If the District's facilities maintenance budget is consumed by other projects then that needs to be addressed.

If you're not going to fix the stairs then you better institute busing in Larchmont. It is incredibly dangerous and one of our children is going to get killed! It was bad enough that we had to pay for the playground. Now the stairs that our taxes are buying aren't being built???
