This petition is in support of UPgrading the athletic facilities at Franklin High School. It will be sent to all elected officials that are decision makers in this process including the Williamson County School Board Members, the Williamson County Commissioners, County and City Mayors and Parks and Recreation.
Franklin High School is THE gateway school for all of Williamson County. While the school building itself had a major overall a few years ago, the athletic facilities have NOT been updated in decades. This, while all the other high schools in Williamson County have been given all the "bells and whistles" when built.
Franklin High School is currently land locked.However, there is now an opportunity to obtain the Columbia State Community College property which sits in the FHS parking lot and for the county to deed over Cheek Park adjacent to FHS immediately. Cheek Park is where the Franklin Rebels play their home games in baseball, soccer and girls softball.
Currently, FHS sits on 30 acres. If we obtain both these properties for athletic use, we STILL would not have the numbers of acres the remaining Williamson County schools utilize for boys and girls athletic events and practices.
The Columbia State building would allow FHS to have girls and boys weight rooms and locker rooms, dance and cheerleading rooms, wrestling room, storage and many more for our student athletes. It also would allow classroom access for academics.
If the county would deed over Cheek Park to FHS, this property would allow us to build a multi-use practice field which could be utilized by football, soccer, lacrosse and many more. It would also nullify the "guns in parks" legislation which is currently being debated in the state capitol. As you know, Dr. Looney has stated that if that piece of legislation passes, the FHS baseball, soccer and girls softball teams would have to play their "Home" games at Centennial High.
It would also allow us to make improvements to the current football stadium footprint. Currently, the FHS track only has 6 lanes. In order for FHS to host a TSSAA sanctioned track meet, we need 8 lanes. The county would also build new restrooms and concession stand facilities on that footprint, which is greatly needed.
This is OUR time to be heard. It's time for us to stand UP for our current and future student athletes at Franklin High School. It's time for the County to Step UP for Franklin High School.

Franklins current facilities are obviously lacking in comparison to other schools forcing FHS to rely on them. It's time to think about what's best for the kids (that's what school is for) and create an equal playing field for Franklin Students.
I want Franklin High to buy the Columbia State property and any other surrounding land that would allow the athletics to expand!!! Franklin High is a beautiful school and should have an athletics complex that is complimentary to the rest of the property.
as a former lacrosse mom, it was unfortunate that my son never had the experience of playing on his home field and we certainly never felt supported and connected to our school. hoping for better for my younger children who will be rebels in a few years!
Our female athletes do not have adequate facilities. It seems that this lack of facilities is a violation of Title IX. Please support the acquisition of Columbia State campus beside FHS and let's acquire the Cheek Park properties as well.
By acquiring CSCC, not only would the athletic facilities at FHS be enhanced, but the CSCC dance studio would provide a home for our dance team. It would also make possible the additional of dance and fitness classes to the curriculum currently in place.

The athletic facilities at FHS are in great need of an upgrade. As we travel to other Williamson County schools to play it becomes very evident that FHS has been overlooked if not forgotten. Our athletes deserve the same nice facilities as every other athlete in Williamson County.

Untile the meeting before last, I had no idea FHS Facilities were as bad as they are. This is sad for one of the most historical schools in Williamson County. Even sadder the school can't even host track events. It's imperative change happen immediately.
