Since 20 April 2023, there has been a decree made by the minister of Education of Quebec, Bernard Drainville, banning public prayer spaces at public schools, citing the value of secularism. This decree is discriminatory, as it stops religious people or religions such as Islam, Sikhism and Judaism to do what their religion tells them to do everyday : praying. It stops them from practice their day-to-day culture and prohibits religious students from praying where they go for a big part of their day : praying. Drainville has said that students can pray silently and discreetly, but this is not possible for religious people such as Muslims, as prayer in religions such as Islam, requires movements. This takes away their religious freedom, and doesn’t contribute much to secularism itself as it teaches that any religion or belief revolving religion can be practiced, or believed.

Mr Drainville, we demand you to unban prayer spaces at school, and open prayers made there, for the purpose of giving more freedom of religion to the thousands of religious students of Quebec.
