We think that Mattel, Inc. should produce a line of Barbie’s that is proportionate to a healthy young woman. Girls get unrealistic expectations about what they want their body to look like, and they want to be Barbie, which is impossible. According to BBC News, at a 1/6 scale, Barbie would be 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with a 36 inch chest, an 18 inch waist, and 33 inch hips. A model of Barbie contained a scale that said her weight was 110 pounds, which would make her 30 pounds underweight for a woman of her height. Over time, Barbie’s waist has been largened in response to controversy, but there has never been a Barbie with realistic proportions. We think that it would be a good influence on young girls to play with dolls that have healthy bodies.
