To mobilize a book-burning in America is about as un-Democratic as instating Fascism. To counter such a movement, each citizen interested, either one way or the other, should read the book first - or, at least the first 10 pages of it - to see what it is about. Then each person who considered participating in this mass mayhem would at least have the information they needed to do the democratic thing, i.e., make an informed decision. If we all do this instead of burning the book, maybe we can have some hope of saving our country from completely abandoning its ideals of free-speech and religious equality. If, after that, someone still wants to burn a Qur'an, at least do it in the privacy of your home instead of in a public setting; such an activity resonates too painfully with the darkness of The Inquisition! If you don't like any of these suggestions, at least throw into the fire all the books on your shelves which you never read - so it is a system of disposal rather than an activity which flies in the face of democracy by condemning a religion about which you know nothing - other than the falsities that a media war and a few radicals have taught you regarding the lives of over a billion people on this planet.

I have been reading through the thoughtful comments you are leaving and it humbles me to see such a genuine commitment to understanding one another. This movement feels much larger than my original intentions and I am simply grateful to witness your collective desire for a more open dialogue.

I started this page because I felt heavy about the direction we were heading, but seeing the way you have all responded makes me feel like we are actually finding a path toward understanding. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who chose curiosity over anger. Thank you for showing me that there is still a deep hunger for thoughtful conversation.

Burning books is straight up cowardice. If you dont like what someone else is reading then just look the other way. We are supposed to be smarter than this in 2017.

So tired of all this hate. Read it before you judge it. At least try to be a decent human being.

Ignorance at its finest. History already showed us how this ends and it never turns out good for anyone.
