Please do not let this beach fall into disarray due to typical bureaucratic red tape. Aren't we better than that? Do the right thing & get this beach open! I don't care if my taxes go up a few $. They will be going up for the rest of eternity anyway, May as well get our beautiful beach back.

Spur Beach is one of our most beautiful areas on the lake. We need to ensure that our residents are safe when visiting this area. If we do not, the beach area will deteriorate and also be used inappropriately by our younger residents. Let's be proactive as a community and solve this issue.

Sam Lee has an excellent point how this whole Spur Beach debacle was fraught with inter-agency bickering, and political power struggle. The beach is closed because of the underwater slope. This is just plain silly. I grew up in Queens, a block from the Atlantic Ocean. The city, state, county and town beaches on the ocean remain open despite riptides, heavy currents, troughs, 6-foot waves, etc. The only things that I ever saw close a beach were hurricanes and sharks (and even the sharks had to be within 100 yards of shore). Putnam County needs to come up to come in line with the rest of the world on this matter. The slope on that beach is NOT dangerous. I believe that we can put the lines in closer where it it's a shallow grade. We can open the beach for that section. If we install relatively inexpensive jute roll or core logs, we can keep that area intact. Then, just like the rest of the lake, swimming beyond the lines is at your own risk. This would allow the beach to be open and a lifeguard to be placed on it. We have Bill Gouldman who is on the County Legislature and Sam O who is a County Legislator Emeritus on our team. Unless there is a drastic drop off (which there is not, here), this denial of code is completely unreasonable.

I'd love to see responsible lifeguards back- but it depends on the cost to re-open it. We shouldn't have to bear the $$ brunt of mistakes that officials made, or be caught in the crossfire between government agencies.

The burden on Park and Children's beach caused by the closing of Spur Beach is unacceptable and deprives residents of the full benefits of the lake.

The lake was the worst I've seen it in 11 years. We need to look for a better weed alternative. The carp did nothing but add to the problem.
Spur beach should be opened. There is no justification to keep it closed.
