Spur Beach is one of the nicest beaches in Roaring Brook and has now been closed for several years. In just just a few years the Roaring Brook community has lost two of it's five active beaches- with only two beaches that are open daily and can hold more than just a few people. Spur Beach is, in fact, being used regularly by the community. However, we cannot place a lifeguard on it because it is technically closed for swimming. This is not only unsafe, but it is a liability to the town and the Roaring Brook community. We the members of the Roaring Brook community request that budget dollars be allocated to this and that planning be started by the town to reopen this beach forthwith. Thank you, from the members of the Roaring Brook Community.

Updates

September 7, 2017

I was walking past the gate at Spur Beach yesterday and saw three families just sitting in the sand even though it is technically closed because what else are they supposed to do when the other spots are packed. The town council keeps ignoring my emails about the liability issues but I am going to keep pestering them until someone actually acknowledges that leaving a popular beach unmonitored is a total disaster waiting to happen.

I'd love to see responsible lifeguards back- but it depends on the cost to re-open it. We shouldn't have to bear the $$ brunt of mistakes that officials made, or be caught in the crossfire between government agencies.

Please do not let this beach fall into disarray due to typical bureaucratic red tape. Aren't we better than that? Do the right thing & get this beach open! I don't care if my taxes go up a few $. They will be going up for the rest of eternity anyway, May as well get our beautiful beach back.

Spur Beach is one of our most beautiful areas on the lake. We need to ensure that our residents are safe when visiting this area. If we do not, the beach area will deteriorate and also be used inappropriately by our younger residents. Let's be proactive as a community and solve this issue.

The burden on Park and Children's beach caused by the closing of Spur Beach is unacceptable and deprives residents of the full benefits of the lake.

The lake was the worst I've seen it in 11 years. We need to look for a better weed alternative. The carp did nothing but add to the problem. Spur beach should be opened. There is no justification to keep it closed.
