I have started this petition because if you've lived in Sussex County long enough you will remember when the passing lane of Rt. 23 Southbound was actually open. This allowed commuters the ability to LEGALLY & SAFELY pass slower moving traffic going up the mountain. Sussex County has long resisted bringing more business and office parks into the county but has frequently allowed residential building. This has left most of its residents with little choice other than to commute and for the most part there are only 2 major roadways in and out of the county: Rt. 15 and Rt. 23. Sharing these mostly 2 lane highways (with little or no room for expansion) has made the roadways more and more congested. Additionaly, due to the amount of quarries in our area, we are now sharing more and more of that mountain hike with commercial vehicles carrying heavy loads who can ony drive at slower speeds.

Please sign this petition to demand that the passing lane of Rt. 23 Southbound between Munsonhurst Rd. and Beaver Lake Rd. be reopened. We also ask that local lawmakers make it ILLEGAL for commerical trucks of any kind to be in anything other than the slow moving right lane during the climb.
