Following a meeting with residents of Riverpoint Estate on Sunday 21st February, the Council were made aware of the strength of feeling of the destruction of the environmental security that residents had enjoyed for over 20 years, indeed since the estate was built. The developer has been halted whilst environmental investigations continue.

The strip of land is an environmental bund that forms a boundary between the estate and the disused former Willenhall Sewage site and prior to the destruction of the trees and shrubs formed a noise barrier between the estate and The Black Country Route.

The land is allocated as ‘Open Space’ in the Site Allocation Document for Walsall

Walsall Council have reported they are intending to redevelop the former Willenhall Sewage Works into an industrial estate creating factories and warehouses. The environmental bund would be needed more than ever to create a barrier

We believe Walsall Council has the powers and funding to obtain the land from its owner.

We call on Walsall Council and WMCA to explore every option to compulsory purchase the land that was previously installed as an environmental bund and restore it in readiness for the Industrial Estate Development
