As an alum, I am very disappointed in this decision. This is a time on our country when journalism is questioned as “fake news” and this perpetuates the question of accuracy, integrity, and information. This is not fitting with the mission of and my experience at Transy.

In an age where media is under attack at the highest levels of public discourse it is unimaginably short sighted of an institution of Trany’s prestige to reinforce that notion by de-funding the Rambler. Defund the administration first.

As a student I loved reading The Rambler. It not only provided a voice to the students, but it also provided an avenue for true journalist to blossom. Let us not allow the university to silence this important aspect of the Transylvania community.

I loved working on The Rambler during my time at Transy, and I have so enjoyed seeing how much it has grown and evolved into what it is today. As an alumna and former editor in chief of this paper, this move by the school is highly disappointing.

Student reporting is an important aspect of keeping universities honest and developing well-rounded, professional journalists. The Rambler is an important piece of the fabric at Transy and should be treated as a treasure.

Democracy is not possible without independent journalism. Transy as a liberal arts institution should be increasing its investment in journalism not dialing it back.
