AGAINST RENFREWSHIRE MUSIC TUITION CUTS!

Renfrewshire Council plans to cut musical instrument lessons from once a week to fortnightly. This would be a huge step back for school music departments and their pupils. Music instructors will lose their jobs - and already face threats of disciplinary action if they speak out at all. This universally condemned plan to halve tuition could be scrapped for less than £143,000 next year. This is less than a tenth of the £2 million sum the Council are putting into balances next year. It is time to stop the 'musical madness' and think again. By signing up, I call on Renfrewshire Council to: 1. Retain weekly musical instrument lessons. 2. Withdraw of current proposals and full review. 3. No compulsory redundancies of music/instrument staff. 4. No disciplinary action taken against staff that speak out in favour of weekly lessons. (By responding to this petition I realise my details may be forwarded to the appropriate Council Officers and Member of the Scottish Parliament).
