When we began grade 10 we were put in spiritual life classes and we told we would be with these people all throughout senior school, that we could rely on each other and support each other and grow together. This is going to be one of the many changes starting in 2017 as Redlands college has decided to change it’s timetables. Each period is now going to be 50 minutes long and with most subjects being a double students will have to sit in class for 100 minutes. And let’s face it; even now with shorter classes students struggle to keep engaged in a double. Studies show that teenagers have an attention span of 20 minutes, these new changes will disengage students, take away their much needed study halls and give them less opportunity to stretch and walk between classes which is a health concern. And to top this off students who are sick or who have sporting commitments representing the school will miss ample amounts of work covered in class during their absence due to the longer periods. Your voice can be heard through this petition so stand up for your future at Redlands College and sign this petition against the time table changes as students and as future leaders of the college.

Fully agree with everything stated, the spiritual life change would affect the whole grade after already spending 2 years with the students in the class as we have seen each other grow and changing this in our SENIOR year is completly pointless and against what was said in year 10

Attention span is not long for me personally, I'd say 30 - 40 minutes. Having an hour and a half will rise temptations to reach for games on the iPads. I'm also not keen on this pastoral care class just before lunch, I really don't want to see these changes take place :/

I think the longer periods will be detrimental to my children's academic performance (it will negatively impact on the learning process) and it will reduce the much needed physical activity between classes throughout the day. Is the RC Timetable change justified based on sound research by prominent researchers in the field?

Why weren't these changes discussed with the student's before being put into placement, maybe changing a huge part of the student life without asking anyone about it, is not the best idea and in the interest of students.

Senior students need their supportive peer groups dealing with all the pressures of being a senior. I understand you want to support the 7,8 and 9s but this should not be at the detriment of the seniors who have already built trusting relationships and support networks.

This decision does not seem well researched. Even at University there are breaks for stretching / bathroom / and to mentally refresh. I fully support the initiative to oppose the proposed changes.
