Our Sanatan Dharma is not governed by calendar dates; rather, we conduct our Rath Yatra in accordance with the *Tithi* (lunar day). This is a matter of grave insult to us, and it absolutely should not happen.

I wholeheartedly endorse this appeal for the preservation of the sanctity and scriptural authenticity of the Shree Jagannatha Ratha Yatra. The Puri Ratha Yatra represents one of humanity's oldest living spiritual traditions and an invaluable component of India's cultural and civilizational heritage. While the global dissemination of Lord Jagannatha's message is welcome and worthy of appreciation, the observance of the sacred Ratha Yatra must remain aligned with the scriptural injunctions, traditional calendar, and ritual discipline that have defined it for centuries. Protecting the uniqueness and integrity of this revered institution is a matter of cultural responsibility, spiritual sensitivity, and national heritage conservation. I urge all concerned stakeholders to uphold and preserve this sacred legacy with the dignity and reverence it deserves.

The directive from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration and Shri Gajapati to International Society for Krishna Consciousness is that Ratha Yatra celebrations should be conducted within the traditional nine-day period beginning with the Ratha Yatra at Jagannath Temple and concluding with Bahuda Yatra. According to scriptural tradition, the dates of Ratha Yatra and Snana Purnima are specifically prescribed. In the Skanda Purana (Purushottama-ksetra Mahatmya, Adhyaya 29, verses 32–41, 44, and 45), Lord Jagannatha is described as declaring that His Ratha Yatra should be observed as a nine-day festival commencing on Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya. References to this prescribed nine-day observance are also found in the Brahma Purana and the Padma Purana, and have been upheld through longstanding tradition. This nine-day period provides organizers outside India with some flexibility, typically encompassing at least one weekend and sometimes two weekends, thereby facilitating planning and public participation while remaining within the traditional observance period. We, the Odia community in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area, strongly support this and we have appealed ISKCON Baltimore President to reconsider Adinia Rath Yatra ISKCON Baltimore President has responded by stating that: “Since arrangements for this year are already finalized, it may be difficult to make changes now. However, we would be very happy to discuss and coordinate timings for next year well in advance.” Your Servant Nila Madhava Das
