This makes me sick. How can they even say that at a training session? Accountability starts with the admin.

A state needs to wake up. This is 2016 not 1950. Keep fighting this.

Keep it going! That seminar wasn't serious enough- it was all fun and games.

Attempted rape is also a felony. People should be taught what rape is; every form and degree. About consent, etc. I do not take issue with students learning about the legal consequences of raping or attempting to rape. They should know it is a felony and all that having that type of charge entails. That, in and of itseof, may help deter someone in the group from commuting rape. However, based on what I know about this, it appears that emphasis is being placed on protecting the offender. Intervening in a rape/attempted rape in process makes you a witness to a FELONY CRIME. If you do not do something to stop it-either physically or by calling 911 immediately, you become an accessory to that felony CRIME. Yes, stopping the rape is the most important reaction another student can make. It's sad that ASU seems to be using the angle That "you should do it to protect your buddy from a felony". It's sad and, besides, it is incorrect legal advice. ASU, teach these students what rape is, what consent is, what it does to the victim short term and long term, how to spot the signs of a rapist, the signs that someone is being raped, what to do in the event you catch someone attempting or committing rape, and all the reasons why a person shouldn't rape, should stop it, and what someone can do it they are a victim.

It's disappointing how unsurprised I am that this behavior is on Astate's campus. It is decades past time to put an end to this rape culture. You have my full support.
