Presently the rental allowance for disability recipients is $375. It is impossible to find accomadations that cheap in B.C. Even renting a bedroom in someones home is higher than $375. The only option available to us is to use a portion of our food allowance to cover rent above $375 which means going hungry. If we are lucky enough to find a place in our price range it means living with complete strangers.
In my own personal experiences as a disability recipient. this has caused depression and suicidal thoughts. I have had to live in shelters and in the home of a stranger who turned out to be an inactive pedophile. As of now I am living in temporary accomadations and searching for a place to live in my rent price range. I cry all the time because this is just impossible. Raising the rental allowance may also help with the homeless problem.
Please please sign this petition to help disability recipients get enough rental income to match the actual cost of rent in B.C
Lets tell the government that this is not tolerable!
