It is absurd that NAU is not required to comply with the state of Arizona’s minimum wage laws. There are numerous students that work on campus and are not being paid the same as students working off campus. For students who have to pay various bills during the month it is almost impossible to come up with the money because they are being paid substantially below Flagstaff’s minimum wage which is currently at $11.00 per hour. Northern Arizona University provides various jobs for students thus being the biggest employers but is it worth it. The convenience of being within walking distance of your job and the work experience it provides are benefits, but could you find that somewhere else! Because the state and flagstaff laws define employers in a certain way it allows for the University to not comply.
