This petition, supported by the undersigned constituents, is directed to members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Fairfax County Department of Recreation and Fairfax County Zoning Committee. Its goal is to support the designation and construction of an enclosed dog park with transition areas at Raglan Park in Vienna, VA. We, the undersigned constituents of the Westbriar neighborhood, the Tyson's Corner residential community, and their respective associations urge you to allocate Raglan Park as a dog park and to authorize the funding required to establish an off-leash dog park to be created at the location described above. In creating a dog park, we hope to accomplish multiple goals: 1. To establish a fenced in, off-leash dog park where well-behaved canine can exercise in a clean, safe environment without endangering or annoying people, property, or wildlife. 2. To develop a beautiful, well-maintained space, open to all dog lovers and friends who are willing to uphold the park's rules and restrictions and the maintain the Board of Supervisor's effort to maintain or increase the existense of trees in the county. 3. To view this park as a community project, in partnership with Fairfax County, designed to satisfy the needs of dog-owners and non-dog owners alike.

Kent Gladstone has been living in the McLean/Tyson's area since 1972. She lives near the target area for the suggested Off-leash dog park. With the Tyson's Corner renovation, the park service wants to add more athletic fields. Kent would like to have at least one Off-leash dog park for our Tyson's/McLean community. She counted 25 athletic fields in Reston, Tysons, Vienna, and McLean. She counted 2 Dog Parks, one in Oakton, and one in Reston. Our area accounts fo almost 10% of the Fairfax County population and we expect this number to grow. Dogs owners pay taxes just like everyone. We'd like to have facilities for our use as well. I have other questions for the County Park Service as well. My main question is, how much does it cost the tax payer to build athletic fields? I want to compare that to how much it will cost a group of owners to build a dog park. I am in the process of starting a dog club blog. Stand by for more information.
