It is quite an accomplishment that Surfrider compelled SCE to give the public 48 hours advanced notice before releasing treated but still radioactive waste into the ocean. Now we just need to make sure that word actually gets out. The public only heard about the discharge on December 19 on the same day of the release.This petition will help San Clemente Green to push for more publicity through city websites, social media and physical posting of signs on beaches and parks up and down the coast. I have been staring at the city website all morning and there is still absolutely zero mention of these releases despite what they promised. It is frustrating how they think a tiny notification on some back page counts as transparency when people are out there surfing and swimming every single day without knowing what is happening in the water.

I moved to northern California to get away from this disaster-waiting-to-happen. But for those who still live in the vicinity, SDGE owes them the courtesy of public and obvious notifications when they are preparing to poison the ocean.
We MUST be advised, with plenty of notice, when there will be radioactive releases (along with other toxic chemicals) into our ocean! I don’t appreciate learning of a release a couple days after I was in the ocean!
The nuclear-power industry keeps telling the public that generation by that method is "safe". If that is so, then why are they so secretive? What is being kept from view?
I object to this rad-water being dumped -- and certainly surfers, fisherfolks, and others should know when such dumps are occurring.
This is a step in the right direction but it differently needs to be posted on the beaches just like when there are other spills. People cannot be expected to check Edison's website on a daily basis.

Everyone notify the media and let them know that you would like the weather pages and reports to include a daily radiation level Water Safety item. ie: The daily water levels of discharges at SONGS of 2000-4000 gals and the larger Liquid batch releases 19,200 to 25,000 gals, as a water condition alert "Stay out of the Water " addition.
