He was suspended not because he stopped to rescue the girl, but, rather, because instead of returning to his amubulance after turning over the care for the girl to the Fire Dept. ambulance EMTs whom responded 4 minutes after he did, he rode in the Fire Dept. ambulance to the hospital with the girl and abandoned the patient whom he was transporting and his partner EMT. Instead, he used his suspension as a publicity stunt rather than as a learning lesson. In doing so, he slandered Assist Ambulance, Inc. publicly, and if he took the money from GoFundMe he should have to repay it. He took an act of valor and turned it into a disgrace!

He is not just an "Ambulance Driver." Above and beyond. Someone should snatch him up and give him a decent place to work so he never has to face this again. The job is bad enough. Thank you Qwasie for your amazing work. I'm sorry you had to face losing that child alone. I would have done the same though without question. You made a reasonable decision.

If this had been my daughter and she was denied assistance by a "trained" hero because of his company, I would have been knocking on the company's door, and possibly knocking on the CEO. This guy should have had a pay rise for positive company image. Well done qwasie, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest the arseholes of your employers.

Well done Mr Reid. I am appalled that you are being punished for so obviously doing the right thing. How on earth could anybody expect you to walk on by and not try to help when you were in a position to? Sadly this poor girl did not make it, presumably because no one in the school was able to administer the appropriate first aid, but you gave her a chance. The sad outcome does not in any way change the fact that yours was the right, humane thing to do. Your employers are obviously in the wrong job if they do not think trying to save lives is the right thing to do. I wish you well and hope you gain another paramedic job soon with a more humane, caring company that better suits your nature.

Why punish him for trying to help someone? Had he just drove pass the person that flagged him down, then the complaint will be how heartless he us for driving pass.

It's a damn shame someone who is capable of saving a life gets punished for doing so. That company is a disgrace to anyone in the medical profession.

Qwasie Reid did EXACTLY what Jesus would have done. Give him his job back. I am ashamed at the department for firing him.
