Qianyi Gong (Yvette): Permission to Return to Brandeis University
We, the students of Brandeis University and caring friends of Qianyi Gong (Yvette), petition Brandeis University to allow her continued attendance here throughout the Spring 2015 semester and thereafter.
After the frightful accident and immediate surgery that occurred to Yvette Gong on November 2nd, Brandeis University asked her to enter a mental health program on suspicion of her potential self-harm tendencies. She was discharged after three weeks with the hospital’s approval to return to school. However, she was told by the dean that she’s not allowed to show up on campus due to: “the recent behavior on your part, which, if true, is considered disruptive to the safety and well being of the campus,” quoted from the dean’s email. Putting her through the program a second time could be unnecessarily emotionally and mentally taxing.
The Brandeis University officials have set certain conditions for Yvette Gong in order for her to possibly return to campus. Sending her back to the program is not the proper solution and seeing how the school has already refused to let her back after receiving the hospital’s approval, there is no certainty that the university will allow the attendance of Ms. Gong the second time.
She is also prohibited from stepping on campus if, by some remote chance, she is involved in another accident, which is considered disruptive by the school. Yvette has found a loving group of friends through dance crews, the Cornerstone Church, a rock band, Brandeis Dance Marathon, BAASA, and BC3. We all hate seeing her placed in this situation and believe that punishing her under these circumstances is unfair.
We request that Brandeis University permits Yvette Gong to return back to school and pursue her education.
Sincerely,
The Students of Brandeis University
