Fortune Academy has been an asset to the community and I feel strongly the original price of $20k is very reasonable, considering condition of building .

My daughter attends this school, going into the 5th grade. I can't tell you the value this school is and improving her education, self worth and a desire to attend a post secondary institution. The staff at this school is teaching her in ways to help her learn that the public school can not.

Everyone was already winning here. More at-risk students were going to obtain a fantastic education while an abandoned building got refurbished. This isn't a Chipotle going in, it's a rapidly growing non-profit school that garners national attention. Expanding this school locally puts more productive people in the area and more eyes on Indianapolis as a thriving hub. Students win. Area business win. The city wins. Furthermore, what better investment is there than the education of our children? Most students tend to stay or relocate back to where they grew up to start businesses, raise families, and have a career. When you have students and their families coming in from all over to attend this school (and also staying here when they may have needed to go elsewhere), this becomes a real investment to the city now and in the future. Instead, nurture this school's growth and it will reward the community ten-fold.

We drive from Muncie every school day to bring our son to Fortune. I had never spent time in Lawrence before, but now I do most of my shopping there, eat in local restaurants, and have joined the YMCA. Many other families drive into Lawrence each day and support the local economy in various ways. Please agree to the original proposal and help Fortune grow - it will help your community and businesses as well.

A building that has sat empty for so many years could have the opportunity to be renovated AND educate our kids is a no brainier Lawerence! FA operates very professionally with the best education and welfare of the students always their top priority. Their presence in your community is only positive !

I think the Reuse Authority should recognize the opportunity for this building to be utilized than further deteriorate. The fort was named after US President Benjamin Harrison, was responsible for the American Flag to be flown at each school. Pretty historic to have a high school occupy one of the Army's building. The government basically sold the army's fitness facility to the YMCA for $1. Look at the great contributions it has brought to the community. I think this building should be sold for $1 to Fortune Academy. The estimate to renovate is that, an estimate. When the YMCA got into the redevelopment of that facility we learned that the facility built by the government was not required to follow typical building codes. Although most of the existing facility was raised for new construction the YMCA was responsible for bringing the preserved building up to code. This school is for students who have unique learning styles. Fortune academy will graduate students who think outside the box whom will become entrepreneurs and leaders like Charles Schwabb, Jay Leno, Michael Phelps, Richard Branson, Tommy Hilfinger, David Neeleman, Anderson Cooper, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, John Forbes Nash, Isaac Newton and Richard Engel to name a few. I believe the Re-use authority should embrace this opportunity and work with the school as a mentor by sponsoring a "student led think tank" within for the further development of the Fort and other re-use needs of the city. My notes here within are to the best of my recollection from my previous work in the develooment of the YMCA but my message is clear.
