PWCS Nondiscrimination And Commitment To Equity Policy 060

“The Prince William County School Board is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination and to the provision of equity in its educational programs, services and activities for all students and employees. The Division shall not discriminate in employment nor in the provision of educational programs, services, and activities on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability.”

Prince William County School Board brought the aforementioned item up at the September 7, 2016 school board meeting. There is a proposal to change the reading of the policy to include transgender nondiscrimination. I am a parent of former and current Prince William County School students and a former teacher in the county. I am proposing that the board and concerned parents of Prince William County, postpone a vote on the proposed change until the school board has adequately investigated the legal and social implications of this proposal. Together we can address tough issues, but we need to be conscientious problem solvers. To vote on this issue at this early time, would be an irresponsible act. If you agree, please sign the below petition. I am attending the September 21st school board meeting and will be presenting this petition to the school board.
