Did you know that Americans use 500 million (500,000,000) straws DAILY (Parker 2018), but only for an average of 20 minutes (1MillionWomen 2017)? The issue with plastic straws is they are used for a short period and then thrown out to last 400 years, for it takes this long amount of time for them to breakdown (Garfield 2018). But, straws don't really decompose they just break down into smaller pieces called microplastics. Which end up in our drinking water and food sources. This is an issue that I believe we can solve, by putting a band on plastic straws. For those that may need them due to a health or disability condition, alternative straws will be provided at businesses in Park Ridge, IL. But I NEED AS MANY SIGNATURES AS POSSIBLE!!! I am speaking at the city hall meeting on March 18th and I need strong evidence that shows that the people of Park Ridge, back up this idea!
