As an alumni, I am appalled that an institution which prides its self in tradition would think it is a good idea to make such a radical change. Whoever made this decision obviously is not an alumni nor a military officer. Seriously the school needs to get its act together and take pride in what we are instead of trying to bend over backwards for a society which rejects our core institutional values.

I can appreciate a Music Director trying to experiment with different instruments and sounds, but we are talking about a traditional military band and traditional military bagpipe ensemble. Bands and Bagpipers normally perform as separate units in military organizations. They often work together, but as separate units playing together. This is a tradition that should not be broken. Also, I personally think that mixing these groups together tends to produce a cacophony or discordant sound compared to the tradition of keeping these units separate whether in marching or a concert setting. I've seen numerous videos now posted on Citadel related Facebook pages and I cannot agree more with the intent and arguments of this petition. Return the Pipe Band to it's respected position.

I was a NOB in 1955 (class of '59) when Gen. Clark instituted the Drum And Bagpipe band. The first Drum Major was Bruce Durden from Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Keep the "Pipes" at the front of the band where they belong. They are unique to Thre Citadel.

In January 1962, Captain Grant-Alexander played the pipes at our mothers funeral at Kingston Presbyterian in Conway SC. We were grateful he honored her last request. Three more Citadel graduates stand with you; Carry on !
