I am totally in support of violence against women in Sri Lanka. Its the movies too that show macho men who are entitled to abuse their women.

with unlimited oppurtunities availble to women in the feilds of education and careers can we justify that we have done enough to fight against violence yhat is perpetrated against women unabatedly and with relative immunity?

It is important for men to be involved in support of prevention of any form of violence against women or girls in Sri Lanka, Advocacy by them in how women should be treated in our country is important. Development of tolerance towards mild misdemeanors on the part of women should be handled merely by correction, even in times of anger. Violence of the sort we read about should not be resorted to under any circumstances.

Violence Against Woman in Sri Lanka - It is disgusting and shocking to hear of what goes on. I sincerely hope the authorities will take the necessary measures to stop this so that the number of victims will reduce considerably.

This is a great initiative. We have to do more to prevent violence against women. It goes beyond mere violence and accounts directly and indirectly to many deaths.

Sri Lankan Women should have the same rights as women in the UK and Europe and USA i.e. they should have the right to Education and the right to choose their own Job/Profession. They should not be treat as secondclass people whether from the North or South of the Country.

It is time Sri Lanka allowed Women to be given full education as a right and the freedom to enjoy a job/Profession of their own choice. At the moment it is rare for women to reach the top of their Profession - but it can be done - I know of two wonderful Ladies in Sri Lanka who are at the top of their chosen career path. This should be available to all women of Sri Lanka whether from the North or South of the Country.

The day each woman is empowered would be the end of violence against women. Hence, the girl child needs to be empowered with life skills and assertiveness.
