Public Statement by Signature to Oppose the Compromise of Our Community’s Security and Safety
We oppose the placement at 2507 S. Beavercreek Rd. Oregon City, Oregon 97045 of Central City Concerns proposed a 40 unit housing facility for drug and alcohol rehabilitants and homeless housing recovery for the following reasons:
This facility will have a negative impact on the local communities of Oregon City. It would decrease local property values as well as potentially cause harm to the businesses that are in the local vicinity. This housing unit would bring 40+ new tenants and their families to the Oregon City community from correctional facilities, rehabilitation centers, mental health facilities or straight off the street; by either court order or voluntarily. These tenants would be housed without CCC performing background checks or provisions to ensure the safety of the surrounding residents. Furthermore, Central City Concern has stated they will not be liable or responsible for these tenants or their actions when they are not in their housing units.
We do support the rehabilitation of those who seek recovery, but we are insistent on providing a safe and healthy environment for both the residents of the community as well as individuals seeking aid as tenants of CCC’s housing. We do not feel the location proposed offers those things.
