Psychology Today needs to take this article down AND allow an article written by a BIPOC professional who will be able to discuss the harm that “Karens” do and have done to further white supremacy in this country. I do not like how the perpetrator was painted as the victim due to the fact that many in this country will no longer allow this behavior to be acceptable and will dismantle it. This is one of the reasons why BIPOC folks do not trust or feel safe with white therapists and psychologists. Do the right thing! Take the article down!!!!

The author of this petition, Stefani Roscoe, is making reckless accusations of “blind white privilege.” Really!? Since when is it appropriate, ethical or professional for a mental health therapist to make such an ugly and vicious statement. Mr. Roscoe certainly has the right to disagree with any article. However, as a mental health professional, I would expect that he would express his concerns in a far more professional manner than the above.

I do not believe that the latest Karen article took in to consideration the emotional distress that BIPOC a experience when they encounter a “Karen”

This article prioritized white comfort, fragility, and oppression over Black lives. Inappropriate.

Very tone deaf, dismissive and plain racist. This needs to be removed. You published it so you agree. Now we wait for the “proverbial apology tour.”

As a woman of color, I felt offended by this article. By psychology today posting this offensive article, I don’t feel seen or supported by this establishment meant to provide support to our healing community. I felt attacked and diminished. I plan on cancelling my psychology today profile until you are able to find ways to be more supportive to therapists who are also POC.

Psychology Today needs to incorporate an inclusion lens. I read a recent article about “Karen’s” which REALLY missed the mark about the message of black lives matter. Also the cover is always a skinny white model- it does not represent our country and those we serve in mental health

The tone of this article was completely tone-deaf and problematic at best. The author lack the emotional intelligence and cultural competence to fully understand the weaponizing of whiteness against black bodies. This author is speaking from a place of white privilege and that in and of itself is part of the problem.

Wow, that article certainly attempts to protect the violent consequences of white privilage with zero regards to the harm to BIPOC bodies. Shameful.

Equity in visibility of features. More BIPOC paid writers. More BIPOC partnerships. More culturally competent material. Culturally competent articles and writers need to be highlighted while insensitive clinicians need to be silenced.

As a community leader working with marginalized citizens, I was disgusted to see PT publish this thoughtless, completely out of touch piece. PT should retract this article and apologize.
