We, the undersigned, as Writer Members of PRS for Music, demand an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) with senior PRS for Music Directors, including both writer and publisher Board members as well as membership staff, to discuss the recently announced overpayments relating to the April and July 2017 distributions.

The response to this has been heavier than I expected and it confirms that we are not alone in our frustration. It is exhausting to keep pushing for accountability but seeing this kind of unity makes it impossible to stop now.

Because it was PRS that created this nightmare, a honourable gesture would be for PRS to only take 50% of the money, it was their mistake.
The life of a freelance composer is difficult and unpredictable enough without this kind of unpleasant - and unwanted - surprise.
Overpayments issue undoubtedly needs discussion and explanation of a way forward.
Everyone who relies on royalties is now looking for a clear, professional resolution to what has become an unfortunate series of fracas.
Though I seem to be (as yet) unaffected, I feel a clearer explaination is needed as to what happened. Production music composers who rely on royalties as their main (and sometimes only) source of income have a difficult enough time arranging their life around a lot of financial unpredictability - this kind of problem can be crippling.
Questions need to be raised and lessons learnt...

This is just not good enough. Being told to pay back money because of their own accounting mess is outrageous and they need to answer for it properly.
