This program is excellent and to have to travel to Panama for a visa may deter a lot of interested students. I hope this works out.

Obliging English assistants to spend limited funds to go to Panama for long-stay visas may well destroy this great programme.

Please prevent students and young professionals from having to go to Panama for their long stay visa. The teaching assistant programme has heroes so many. Let's keep this alive!
Thanks

This is an excellent programme. Both countries benefit tremendously on account of this cross cultural exchange. There are so many young teachers of French who desire to be immersed in the French culture for an extended period. Going to Panama to obtain a long stay visa will be extremely difficult for these teacher trainees and many others who have the desire to participate in this programme.

I have been on the assistant program twice. This program was an amazing experience for me. Please make this experience accessible to our youth and keep the French Consulate open in Jamaica!

As a former assistant and presently a French teacher this experience has complemented tremendously my usage of French and the best way to learn a language is through total immersion that this programme offers.

I think better can be done. Is this programme not for the benefit of both Jamaica and France? I hope the goal is met.

I cannot imagine us doing without the French Consulate here in Jamaica. I fear for the future of French in schools and at the UWI.

Ensure the spreading of the French language and culture by preserving the facility of delivering long stay visas in Jamaica.

I think that this decision will have adverse effects for the teaching and learning of French in Jamaica. It will not only the assistantship program but also our joint degree programme with Bordeaux IV and Université des Antilles, as well as our study abroad programme with the Université des Antilles.

For many assistants, finding the money to pay for their flight tickets to France and the extra money to cover their expenses for the first months is already very difficult..now having to pay for another ticket to Panama is just too much! Therefore this means that in the long run, very few Jamaicans, if any, will be in a position to benefit from this programme. Quel dommage!

Such great potential exists for cross-cultural programmes such as the English Language Teaching Assistantship Programme. This will certainly negatively impact the potential for immersion, French-language appreciation and awareness.

Going to Panama to deliver or receive your documents as well as undergoing the french interview will definately be a costly venture for students.
