Nurses are on the front line, saving the lives of everyone that needs medical attention in our country, states, cities. They are there in schools, doctors offices, hospitals, etc. They spend more time with the patients then anyone else does. And they spend far more time with patients then the doctors do. Nurses tend to patients every need on a minute to minute basis, they tell the doctors what’s happening and get the doctors to sign off on what’s needed with each patient. Nurses more times then you can imagine, regularly prevent an egregious amount of deaths by bringing to light and correcting a doctors that would have killed a patient- such as a doctor ordering a certain medicine for a patient that doesn’t react well with a different medicine that the patient is already on. That happens on a daily basis in every single hospital where residents are working at “learning hospitals” and they are basically still medical students but act as attending doctors and call the shots and sign off on medicines and procedures. If not for nurses these medical students would have made endless amounts of disastrous errors that would have resulted in catastrophic health implications or death of patients. This happens day in and day out. Nurses are what keeps the hospitals running and the patients alive. Doctors see patients for a handful of minutes a day, nurses see their patients for hours and hours of hands on treatment everyday. Without nurses our medical field would be a disaster. They not only do a critical and crucial job but they also are at risk themselves. More at risk then anyone else. Our nurses are grossly underpaid, don’t also make them overexposed. They need better and they deserve better. Get the nurses the proper equipment they need to keep themselves safe and therefore they can continue to keep all the patients safe.
