To: General Motors and Car Dealerships

We demand that you stop withholding important safety information and possible defects from consumers and be more transparent about a vehicle’s safety concerns.

In 2004, General Motors started to become aware of a faulty ignition switch which caused 153 people (there could more) to die. When GM discovered this, they didn’t tell consumers about the problem; they covered it up instead. Most of these people died in 2005 and it was clear the deaths could have been prevented. And this is just one tragic example.

Big brand car manufacturers silence car dealerships from advising customers about potential defects and possible safety concerns. The only time they let consumers know about defects is when a recall is in effect. How many dealers know about the potential safety issues and concerns?

This year, extensive amendments were made to bill HB525 in the State of Maryland. The bill now forces dealers to tell consumers about safety type issues about a vehicle without any retribution from the manufacturers.

We must fight to pass this bill in all states.

If consumers in each state come together and put intense pressure on lawmakers, manufacturers, and car dealerships, we can hopefully get a similar bill passed in other states. Consumers rights deserve to be protected!

Join us and let’s fight for better car consumer rights!

At Happy Driving, we believe that car dealerships should provide consumers detailed vehicle information before they purchase a new car.
