On January 28th a group of concerned parents will be meeting with Superior School at their board meeting to discuss our deeply concerned about the amount of standardized testing Plato Schools are electing to administer above and beyond what is required by state and county. In a time when bi-partisan congress is calling for the reduction of testing overall, but especially standardized testing, Plato Schools are administering more standardized testing days than any other school in the county. At this time Plato Schools are volunteering to administer approximately 6-8 extra testing days with standardized testing that are not required by the state or county. I believe administering the SAT-10 as a pre and post measure to our students is not only unfair, it is not measurable in the way intended. In fact, there is no other school requiring additional standardized testing. Plato is electing for 6-8 extra days, even in Kindergarten.

We are concerned parents who care about our kids, volunteer for field trips, donate money each year to our schools, serve on a SAC committees, support our teachers, and want to help make decisions that will improve our children's education. We are not trying to start an opt-out movement, however several of us choose not to have our children take the SAT-10 test this year, which will be given again in 2 months. We are hoping the board will eliminate the SAT-10 testing. No other school in the district uses this. We vote for engaging, hands on learning, with teacher and assessments that come from weekly lessons that improve classroom instruction. We would also like to see the extra money saved (these test are expensive) to go towards classroom materials such as books and science materials. If you agree please sign and perhaps join us on Thursday. We would like to collect the most signatures possible so please encourage spouses to sign as well. We however want to make this a powerful petition, so please only sign if you are a Plato (any campus) parent and forward to other Plato parents.
