PROTECT THE ELEPHANTS
22nd September night was one of the most tragic for Indian wildlife. Seven elephants lost their lives on the railtracks near Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Reportedly, several others were wounded but managed to escape into the forest. The incidence of trains killing elephants is always on the rise....apathy and ignorance being the main killers. 36 elephants have been killed by the trains in the last 3 years. And this in addition to human hostility, and massive loss of habitat and grazing grounds. But for how long will they bear the curse of our civilization? Man has played the part of Destroyer in Chief for too long. Raise your voice. Let the world know there are people who care. People who love forests, love wildlife for what they are. As precious, wonderful gifts that Nature had bestowed on us to cherish and marvel, not kill and ravage. This is a petition to everyone concerned, everyone who can make this stop. To the Honourable Minister of Railways, Smt. Mamata Banerjee and all the concerened Indian Railways officials; To the Honourable Minister of Environment and Forests, Sri Jairam Ramesh, Allgovernment and non-governmentenvironmental bodies, Everyone who can act as a cog to turn the wheels in favour of the elephants. Please, please, please.....do something. Stop the deaths. Protect our elephants.
