We, the undersigned, are against NASA\'s proposed construction of a commercial launch pad on the western shore of the Mosquito Lagoon. It would badly degrade one of the few wild areas left in Florida.
This area is heavily used by an ever-growing population of recreational fishermen, kayakers, birders, and other nature enthusiasts.
The proposed launch pad would significantly shrink public access to the area, resulting in even more pressure being placed on the remaining natural areas.
We believe the Mosquito Lagoon-Indian River Lagoon estuary needs more area set aside for public recreation and education - not less.
The Canaveral Air Force Station is littered with old, out-of-use launch pads, many of which could be adapted for use as a commercial launch area. We believe NASA needs to work out an arrangement with the Air Force to make use of one of these areas.
We strongly encourage the officials at NASA to reconsider this ill-conceived plan before more environmental damage is done.
The momentum behind this petition highlights the widespread commitment to preserving the Mosquito Lagoon. It is clear that many people value the protection of our natural coastline over industrial expansion.

There are plenty of abandoned spots already on the Cape. Use what you have and leave the lagoon alone!!

Been fishing the lagoon since I was a kid. Its one of the last decent spots left. NASA needs to look elsewhere.

This is totally ridiculous. My kids love fishing out there. Destroying nature for another launch pad when old ones are sitting empty is just lazy.

Keep the lagoon wild. We go there every weekend to kayak and the last thing we need is a launch pad ruining the peace and quiet.
