• Pigeons are living beings that feel pain, fear, and distress, yet in Malta they are often overlooked, mistreated, or left without any clear legal protection.

Whether wild or racing pigeons, these birds are frequently injured, abandoned, or harmed, and there is little awareness or responsibility when they suffer. Many people are unaware that pigeons are intelligent animals capable of bonding, navigating long distances, and experiencing stress and trauma.

This petition calls for:

• Clear legal protection for pigeons against abuse and intentional harm

• Humane handling and rescue protocols for injured pigeons

• Accountability for those who deliberately harm pigeons

• Greater public awareness and education about pigeons as sentient animals

• Cooperation between authorities, veterinarians, and animal welfare groups

Protecting pigeons does not take away from other animals — it strengthens compassion for all animals.

A society is judged by how it treats its most overlooked lives.

Pigeons deserve care, protection, and respect.
