Protecting Sandy Relief Funds for Sandy-Impacted Areas
We the undersigned stand strongly against HUD’s proposal to divert Sandy Relief funds to a “national resiliency competition.” Thousands of residents in New York City remain without assistance more than 18 months after Sandy hit, and latest estimates suggest that NYC still needs an additional $1 Billion to fully meet the housing needs of Sandy-impacted residents. Diverting funds approved by Congress for Sandy recovery to a nation-wide competition would seriously undermine our efforts to rebuild in New York City and serve as a slap in the face to the people who are still struggling to get back home. We urge you in the strongest possible terms to reject this proposal and provide New York City with the full amount of funding needed for recovery.
