Protecting Federal Forests

In the PNW, wilderness is a big part of our identity. But our identity is being stripped from us. This problem started when the California gold rush caused a need for timber. Seattle, with abundant natural recourses and a great port for shipping, quickly became the 2nd largest producer of lumber in the US. Recently I was inspired by Switzerland's wilderness protection policies, which makes over 1/3rd of Switzerland wild and untouchable land, backed up with steep fines if violated. As the 2nd largest producer of lumber in the Us, a great deal of it passes through the port of Seattle. Majority of the logging is done on federal forests, which are usually protected but trump has opened them for logging, specifically in western Washington. I believe we can improve on this situation by passing policies to keep federal forests safe from logging, as well as bringing Seattle's identity back through sustainable logging practices. This will be done by creating volume in our words through public petitions. This creates impact in our voices to then be transferred to an email to federal forest leaders, demanding change. Thank you so much for reading, inspire action today by signing the petition.
