The breed standards are officially being upheld and the push to protect the integrity of the Black Russian Terrier has succeeded. My energy is nearly depleted after this long struggle but seeing this outcome makes the exhaustion feel worth it. We must continue to watch closely to ensure these guidelines …

Protecting the Black Russian Terrier. This Breed was created by Scientist and Geneticists not Breeders, they found that by Breeding Color certain features of the Breed were affected by this such as Nervous System, Temperment, and Jaw Structure. We are asking that the BRT's of color not be bred or shown so as to not compromise the integrity of our Beloved Breed. BRT's of color should be companions only.

Reaching this level of visibility feels heavier than I expected because the fight to preserve the structural integrity of this breed is far from over. I am physically exhausted by the pushback but seeing so many of you acknowledge the science behind our concerns gives me the fuel to keep going.

BRT's color standard needs to remain Black for registration by any organization. Any BRT's that are born of color need to remain as Companion only and should be spayed/neutered.
BRT is a Black Russian Terrier, not some other color. Hogan's rule applies here: do not mess with the near perfection of the BRT. If you do not appreciate the amazing traits of the BRT another color is not going to help you appreciate the dog. Sorry my Grisha wanted to read the message before I sent it. Dr. Richard G. Hogan
Extreme care should be given to breeding the dogs changing or adding color will potentially destabilize the breed. Color mutation no doubt comes with other forms of mutation. Why would anyone want to change the perfect companion.
The integrityof the breed's military roots must be upheld in color, confirmation and temperament.
Let's keep the breed at its current standard and those pups with recessive gene expression as pets only. They are beautiful, but there should not be any dilution of standard.
Plenty of other terriers in other colors Keep the BRT Black!!
Part of the reason this dog is recognizable is it's colour. They turn heads and stand out.

Being a founding member of the BRTCA I feel it was important then and important now to uphold the breed standard as it is written.
