Hamelin Bay is one of Western Australia's unique locations and could be classed as magnificent as Ningaloo Reef, Coral Bay, Shoal Water Bay and other marine santuaries in Australia. This petition has been setup to have the legislation changed in order to have Hamelin Bay near Augusta Margaret River protected after a shocking incident that took place in Feb 2011. The incident was the slaughtering of a stingray called stumpy. Everyone who visits Hamelin Bay knows the area. The stingrays are friendly timid creatures and were becoming a tourist attraction especially with the kids. This devastating incident has just vented the frustration even more to have Hamelin Bay changed to a marine wildlife sanctuary. This isnt a petition to stop fishing either. There's no dilemma with launching your boats off the ramp at Hamelin Bay and taking it out past the Hamelin Bay island but to fish actually in the bay or parts of it especially near the reef and where the stingrays congregate is certainly a zone that should be protected. Please support this petition. Thank you and dont forget to link to the face book page..
