Demand IT Accountability
IT professionals are involved in every part of business. They design proprietary software that makes our businesses' run, they write the programs we sell, they manage our databases, they design and manage our websites and have access to our clients sensitive information. Corporations, small businesses, consumers, and IT professionals themselves, all have a vested interest in who it is that creates these programs and manages this data. Considering that everyone from small businesses to large corporations have experienced the fallout of rogue IT professionals, it is time we have a better way to hold IT professionals accountable. We are calling on the information technology industry to regulate itself before regulation is forced upon them. As consumers we can determine if our doctor has been sued for malpractice or has had disciplinary actions taken against him. We petition both The National Association of Programmers and Association of Information Technology Professionals to create a voluntary monitoring system which will allow those who employ IT professionals to examine the credentials of prospective hires and file complaints against bad programmers.
