ASL is very important to our community and the people who use it! West provides a special program that lets students interact in ways that wouldnt be possible otherwise.

ASL is a much needed program for the community and a life long skill for the students. Teaching ASL at the high school goes way beyond the walls of the school. Having students that lean ASL helps a part of our society that have have far fewer resources than many.

My daughter took 2 years of ASL at West and would have taken more, if it had fit into her schedule.

I am in support of keeping ASL at West High. I work for USPS and some of my coworkers are deaf. They are always thrilled when they find someone who knows ASL. It is a much needed and useful skill, and it's wonderful that West High students have the opportunity to learn it at a young age.

Out of all of the classes I took at West High, doing ASL for 6 years, including my years as an ELPer, has been the only true skill that has helped me out in the real world. I use American Sign Language more often than I use advanced math. Making ASL harder to access creates an even larger barrier between not only hearing and deaf/HOH students at the school, but out in the real world as well.

I loved when my sister took ASL at west high and I gained greater respect for the ASL community when I took the course as well!

Don’t cut the ASL classes
Keep the program!
